Description
Biography of the Artist.
Yokana Augustine born in 1997 Kampala Uganda and raised in Seeta, Mukono District. I completed my bachelor’s degree in industrial and fine art (BIFA) at Makerere University in 2017. In 2018, I was invited to teach at my secondary school (Our Lady of Africa SS, Namilyango) as a teacher of fine art until 2019. I concentrated more on painting art pieces during Covid time where I attained more experience. I normally get concepts or art ideas from daily magazines, daily activities and visiting game parks. Some of my recent works tackle social issues such as racism, human rights as a voice for voiceless and an assertion of my relevance as an artist to modern civilization and human dignity. I use art materials like acrylics and oil on canvas. My style renders a lot of details, and my strength lies in controlling light, perspective and tone variations.
Currently I venture in agriculture as a maize farmer in the countryside of Kayunga and still venture in the art by painting a few art pieces.
As far as the market is concerned, I have worked hand in hand with Kamb Johnson (artist at national theatre) with to create more art exposure by empowering multiple upcoming artists in various parts of Uganda.
